A tax number that does not reconcile is often a reporting problem before it is a tax problem.
When different types of revenue are grouped together, the finance team may struggle to explain what sits behind the total. A report can look complete while still hiding the information management needs: which activities are producing revenue, where costs belong, and how each figure flows into tax reporting.
That makes it harder to spot an error, understand margins or make a sound decision about pricing.
For me, good financial control starts before the tax return. The business needs consistent categories and a clear trail from transactions to reports. Otherwise, every month becomes another exercise in explaining why the numbers do not match.
A useful report should help management understand the business, not just complete a filing.
