Hepta Notes · Business Structure
A second location multiplies the processes already operating in the first.
If costing is unclear, reporting combines unrelated activities, or responsibilities depend on informal conversations, expansion carries those weaknesses into a larger business.
Recent engagement reviews repeatedly connected growth plans with unfinished operational foundations: reliable costing, separate performance reporting, staffing, procedures, contracts and location-specific requirements.
Before committing to the next stage, ask:
- Can we explain the economics of the existing operation?
- Can each business unit’s performance be seen separately?
- Are responsibilities documented and understood?
- Have the proposed activity and premises been checked against their operating requirements?
- Which assumptions still depend on a landlord, partner or authority?
Use those answers to sequence spending and commitments.
Some work can proceed immediately. Other commitments should wait until a specific uncertainty is resolved.
The value of preparation is practical: fewer expensive decisions built on assumptions, and a clearer view of what the business is ready to repeat.
